Yr 5 & 6 Bathurst Camp

« Go Back | Date Posted: 18-Nov-2016 |

On Thursday and Friday this week, Year 5 & 6 went to Bathurst. We had been learning about the Goldfields. We all agree that this camp was so much better than our Canberra camp!

We boarded the bus early in the morning on Thursday and left for Katoomba. On arrival, we had a short stop at Echo Point and saw the Three Sisters. We then travelled to Scenic World and went on both the Scenic Railway and the Cable Cart. We all agree that the Scenic Railway was terrifying and exciting at the same time- let's do it again!!!! At Katoomba we also saw the mining at the bottom of the gorge which was interesting.

Hartley was our next stop. Hartley is a historic town and we were shown through the courthouse, jail and the church. After that we left for Bathurst.

At Bathurst we were assigned our rooms- and it was like a hotel. We all got to be with a friend and there were about 4-5 people in a room. We had lots of fun. At dinner we ate spaghetti and chips, everyone loved it. After dinner was our campfire, sing-along and dance. It was really fun too. Everyone went to bed on time and the teachers said that it was a miracle.

In the morning we had a great breakfast and then began our activities. We all got to see how people lived and mined on the goldfields. We all loved gold-panning and finding gold in the stream and seeing how the blacksmith worked. We also made and cooked our own damper and we put in cockies-joy (golden syrup)!

We learnt about the Chinese immigrants who came to mine the gold in Australia and the hard times they faced.

It was also Fadi's birthday and we sang happy birthday to him and watched him get wet.

We all agree that this was one of the best camps we have experienced and we wish to thank the teachers for all their hard work and time away from their families.
